Less than 75 examples of the Forge Front ever made and each took 3-6 months to make in his studio. This piece is a one-off bench made cabinet from the Paul Evans studio. The sculpture front is a single door with high color and extremely large welded forgings. The piece features many accented 23 karat gold finishes. The upright wall mount is a one of one single door design with two hinges to support the welded panel. Evans would have drawn the layout on paper then pass the design details over to Dorsey Reading who would then execute the welding of the panel. This panel received extra attention as the details of each part are different from other Evans pieces. A typical Paul Evans design for a sculpture front cabinet is a horizontal wall mount or a horizontal credenza on a steel base and would not feature this much color or the large jewel-like forgings that add a new dimension when mounting in situ. An actual masterwork blending design, sculpture, and art. Paul Evans was able to produce pieces like this for a client who did not restrict him and was allowed to draw from his roots as jewelry smith to be true to his artistry.
