Torro Faience-series was a unique collaboration between Carl-Harry Stålhane, back then already an established ceramist and a young designer from the iconic Arabia porcelain company in Finland, Aune Laukkanen. Inspired by his visit to Spain, Stålhane wanted to create something more colorful and decorative than what he was normally used to and founded Aune Laukkanen through a fellow Rörstrand colleague Birger Kaipiainen. Stålhane decided to use earthenware as a material instead of stoneware to allow brighter colors, which is possible due to earthenware's lower firing temperature.
Originally made for the H55 design exhibition in Stockholm 1955, Torro Faience-series was in production only about one year between 1955 and 1956, why many of the pieces are unique or from a very limited production.
