Pair of table lamps by Paavo Tynell, Model no. 9224 'Horseshoe'

Finland, circa 1940s-1950s.
Manufactured by Taito Oy (one) and Idman-Taito (one), late 1940s-early 1950s. Both pieces impressed with manufacturer's mark.

Material solid brass with leather wrapped stem.

Measures: Height 55, width 17, depth 24 cm.

Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) "The Man Who Illuminated Finland" was a Finnish industrial designer with a specialty in lighting design. He was also co-founder of the art metal work and lighting company Oy Taito Ab and had a successful career as a freelance designer for various companies and architects such as Alvar Aalto and Aarne Ervi. ~
